Pinch Punch First of the Month
(and first Newsletter of 2019… sorry about that, but I promise we’ve been busy!)
Firstly, if you haven’t met the new team yet, let me introduce you!
PC Kate is still on Crofton Park ward (and has been for a couple of years, so you should recognise her!), but PC Richard joined the team at the start of January. He used to work on Perry Vale ward and has switched with PC Rob. Stop for a chat if you see us – it’s great to meet the local residents and businesses.
PCSO Francis has been working on Crofton Park since November, having come over from Bellingham ward. He conducts a lot of reassurance visits for victims of crime and conducts ‘cocooning’. This is where he will visit surrounding houses following a burglary to ask the neighbours if they’ve seen anything suspicious as well as to warn the street of potential burglaries occurring. Often, a burglar will use the same method of entry in the same area; we hope to make people aware and offer crime prevention advice.
PC Richard and PC Kate arrested a man in January for burglary offences committed in Crofton Park. This led to a significant drop in burglaries due to the subject being sent to prison and taken off of the streets. However, throughout February there have been several burglaries around Crofton Park Road, and Duncombe Hill. If you see anything suspicious, please report it to police either online, 101 or, in an emergency, 999.
The team have also been busy setting up new Neighbourhood Watch Groups. We attended a meeting in Brockley Rise for a resident group who were keen to set up a Watch Group so PC Kate and PC Richard attended to explain what the benefits of a NHW are:
-
Build a community within the street
-
Be vigilant of who is coming and going from your neighbour’s property – and have neighbours to return the favour
-
Help police out with information
-
Disperse information from the police
-
Some insurance companies offer discounts on home insurance.
If you think you’d be interested in having a NHW group, have a chat with your neighbours and email CroftonPark.SNT@met.police.uk. We can come round and explain the group in more detail, or send an email with information on how to formally set your group up.
PC Richard and PC Kate had training yesterday for Stop and Search. We have refresher courses for a variety of powers throughout the year to ensure that all of our duties are executed lawfully. We will be conducting more stop and searches on the ward throughout the year to reduce drug dealing and knife crime and to ensure the safety of the residents.
If there is anything you think Crofton Park SNT can help you with, please email us at CroftonPark.SNT@met.police.uk or call us on 02087212485 and leave a message.
Report crime by calling 101 or in an emergency call 999.
