World Oceans Day - free entry to the Horniman Aquarium

3 Jun '19

Join us for a day of family fun celebrating World Oceans Day. Come and learn about the oceans and what you can do to help conserve ocean habitats.

Take part in interactive activities, go on an underwater storytelling journey and have a go at our ocean-themed poetry competition.

You can explore ocean objects with our curators and see a new giant turtle taxidermy specimen on display in our Natural History Gallery.

Plus the Horniman Aquarium will be free to enter all day on Saturday 8 June. See what else we have in store:

  • Puppet Walkaround - The Lost and Tangled Forests
Say hello to some friendly fish swimming by. Pick up a pledge card from the fish and tell us how you plan to help #beatplasticpollution.

  • Journey into the Deep: Storytelling and Singing
All aboard for an ocean adventure with stories, songs and craft.

  • Horniman Explorers
Join special guests from our Aquarium and Natural History teams to explore oceans objects in our Hands on Base.

  • #BeatPlasticPollution pop up exhibition
We’re injecting a dose of reality into our tanks with this plastic trash pop-up installation.

  • Curator Talks
Join us for Spotlight on Sharks, Turtles in Trouble and Lego Lost at Sea, talks all led by our Curators.

  • Poetry Competition
Pick up a poetry sheet from our pledge table by the entrance to the Natural History Gallery and enter to win either an oceans goodie bag (for younger entrants age 5-11 years) or a behind-the-scenes Aquarium tour (older entrants 12-18 years).
