Can anyone identify this spider?

Saw this spider in my garden today. Pic doesn’t do justice, biggest spider I’ve ever seen in uk.

Looks like a false widow. Nasty bites so be careful!

Definately not a false widow, they are much smaller and shinier (although they are very common in London). I would say house spider as they are very large for UK spiders. Have a look at https://www.uksafari.com/spiders.htm

I recognise him, he’s called Gary.

Although probably a she!

Be careful it’s a baby Bird-eating Death Face Spider. Probably came over from the Amazon forest on the wind.
