Picking Flowers

I’m hoping for some bright ideas of how to stop one of our neighbours from picking flowers from the communal gardens outside our flats. We’re very lucky to have some amazing rose bushes outside, but often the most beautiful flowers are snipped off after a day or two. We’ve asked her before to stop but she denies any wrongdoing and says she’s just tidying up the dead ones, which isn’t true.

Not a huge problem in the grand scheme of things, but it’s quite irritating that they’re not left for everybody to enjoy. If anybody has any thoughts on how to change the behaviour then that would be great.

I would gather the support of neighbours and send her a polite letter from all of you asking her to desist. If she won’t then contact the housing association and ask them to deal with it.

You could also remind her if that doesn’t work that taking the flowers is theft. Just please don’t go to the police, I don’t think they will thank you.

Thanks @Londondrz. Don’t worry - I wasn’t planning on going to the police. Like I said, it’s not a huge problem, just irritating.

Hope you don’t mind a flippant response - anything for an excuse to listen to Johnny Cash!

As Jeeves would say it depends on the psychology of the individual but you could try humour. Present her with a cheap bouquet from a florists - “I knew how you liked flowers so much so thought I would get you some”. I would think most people would get a hint from that.

That rose is gorgeous. Where do you live again?

Ah that one is gone - we don’t get to enjoy them for long!
