22/04 - Collection of old bikes for local refugee charity

Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting! This is a call out for old, unloved and abandoned bikes needed for a one-off collection for a local refugee charity (www.thebikeproject.co.uk).

The Bike Project does an amazing job collecting bikes which have been abandoned, or are no longer needed. Their team fix them up to donate to refugees to be able get safely and cheaply around London (most asylum seekers are prohibited from working and live on £5.75 per day). At the minute it is also offering free repairs and support to NHS workers.

If you’ve been using lock down to clear out your garage or garden, use your daily exercise to bring a bike (in any condition), save it from languishing and give to a good cause.

Drop off Information:

  • 133 Honor Oak Road
  • Wednesday 22nd April from 4pm-6:30pm.
  • Drop your bike in the front garden (the gate will be open).
  • I’ll be coordinating from a safe distance

The bikes are due to be collected later that evening by van and taken to their Deptford workshop.

Thanks everyone!

Nicola

Absolutely great initiative. I dropped mine off at Sydenham drop off point last year after it had been languishing in hallway, not used for years and needed an overhaul.
Probably too late to get it in forest hill society newsletter but perhaps via Twitter? @starman you are connected or?

Yes great idea! I will also send an email to them. Thanks for the support and please feel free to share the info about the collection further!
