Secure outdoor bike storage - suggestions please

Hi. I live in a house conversion and more and more people are buying bikes. This is understandable. However, they are being stored in the communal hallway and it is becoming more and more crowded.

Can anyone suggest a method of safe storage for them outside on our private parking lot? Security is absolutely paramount for the bike owners - is there a way to store them safely outside and it not cost an arm and a leg to install? If anyone has such storage, please can you let me know how much it cost and how many bikes your storage can hold.

Many thanks

I think the Asgard ones are near top of the range in theft protection. I’ve seen demo videos of people tackling them with all kinds of hand tools and crowbars without success. You would need an angle grinder to get into one. They come in several different sizes. Not cheap, but then again neither are many bikes.

We’ve had this one for a few years and it’s been great. Not cheap as you say but dry and secure.

It looks a very secure installation indeed. However, having seen an angle grinder go through a top of the range kryptonite lock like a knife though butter, I would be very surprised if anything is proof against an angle grinder. Just saying.

It’s all about layers of security, this box is another thing they need to break into coupled with bikes being locked inside adds time and hopefully the rozzers being called to any attempted theft.

You can request a street bikehangar for your area from lewisham council website.
And if enough people in particular streer/ zone request one they will install one they say.

(I live at Forest Hill end of Garthorne Road and put my name down for one the other day. So just to say if anyone else nearish to here needs one too be great too get some more people applying in order to stand chance of getting one installed!).

Thanks yes my memory was unreliable- an angle grinder is actually the tool the makers say a thief would need, saying that this would be quite a noisy event! I’ve edited my note.

Bikehangers are great because they also answer the general problem of what if you want to only get one bike out.

We added bike storage to our communal hallway - under the stairs there was an unused area that we were able to install bike holders onto the wall that kept them tidier but security is still a bit of a problem as it’s awkward to lock them. There’s a definite gap in the market for something that doesn’t take up too much room (and there are great wall options for inside flats) but still allows a bike to be locked.
