UFO

Hi everybody, just now I saw a silent red floating object, with a flashing green light above Forest Hill. It wasnt on Flight Radar and was too close and small for a plane and too quiet for a helicopter. Will try to post a photo.

Could it have been the International space station ?

I’ve seen the ISS and it was just a white light (a reflection of the sun) and surprisingly fast moving. There are lots of other satellites up there though. NASA has a tracker, which used to be brilliant fun and you could sign up for alerts. It disappeared from my phone long ago but I tried to download a new one for the SpaceX launch and it seems to have changed as it no longer worked for me. I downloaded the Heavens Above app instead but time will tell on that.

Crew Dragon? What direction and time was it?

Here are some of last night’s satellite passes and other events

Also saw it. It was low so probably a private drone. Police helicopters don’t appear on flight radars but as you say it was quiet. Defo not ISS or the Dragon as going the wrong way…and it was bright red!

Last night’s Dragon pass according to Heaven’s Above - but I agree with @Jimsthename, I don’t think that’s what it was.

If it was red with a flashing green light - it would’ve definitely been an Earth created craft. Police helicopters and military craft don’t often show up on Flight Radar and other like sites, especially if they’re below a certain altitude. You’ll never see a police helicopter on FR24.com or like sights.

Red = Port side
Green = Starboard

So you can tell if an aircraft is coming towards you or moving away - if you’re the pilot looking towards direction of travel, you’ll have a red light on left wing, and a grreen light on right wing. If you are looking at a craft coming towards you, it will have a red light on the right and a green light on the left. That way you can tell which direction it’s travelling.

Crew Dragon does have red and green navigation lights. Plus a white strobe light - like an aircraft anti collision light. But I really don’t think you could see them from Earth. I think you’d just rely on reflected sunlight -like with the ISS.

I agree with @Flora_Noris could have been military or police. If it weren’t for the green I’d wonder if it were some plonker setting off a Chinese lantern.

Loads of Starlink satellites crossing our skies tonight. Not just from yesterday’s launch, but from Feb also.

etc etc
