Noise in 1930s semis locally?

Dear all

A question for those who live in 1930s semis around the SE23/SE6 area - how do you find the neighbour noise levels? Am needing to move house and appreciate that no adjoined house will be silent…however, really do not want to be able to hear neighbours’ TVs, conversations, bathroom noise etc. on a regular basis. Not talking about occasional events like parties, or those who behave anti-socially, simply regular living noise from regular people. Also would like to pursue musical hobbies in a room on the ‘detached’ side furthest away from the neighbours without disturbing them.

In your experience, am I being realistic or is this kind of house just not for me?

Many thanks

I live in a 1930s semi. My neighbours have a 3 year old boy and play a piano and cello and I can hardly hear anything. Actually I wish I could hear more of them playing

We live in a 30s semi too. Between us and the neighbours we have 5 kids, 2 dogs and a few instruments and we never hear anything (from either side, I’ve asked)

Fantastic, thanks! Had heard nightmares re people being able to hear every word of normal-level conversations etc.

I do remember hearing about one category of local houses which were designed to be detached homes, then converted at the last minute to be semis, and the divider was not very soundproof. If memory serves correctly this was houses built by one prolific local developer a century or so ago. I can’t remember more than that though!
