Fantasy Forest Hill

Although this is can be seen as a fantasy wishlist feel free to comment on suggestions you think could be a viable enterprise and whether or not it’s a sustainable venture.

Right, here goes: Tart up Heron House on Dartmouth Road and get rid of Paddy Power and replace it with an independent food hall that accomodates a butcher/game dealer, fishmonger and vegetable market. That would seriously bloody the nose of Lordship Lane!

Your turn.

Since it’s a fantasy, M&S Simply food or Little Waitrose instead of the big William Hill in Perry Village. A smaller betting office, maybe where Hannels’s Wine Store is (are they still trading?) would be better.

A junk shop in paddy power. Spilling out onto the pavement. In fact, a few. Forest Hill could be for junk as Hay on Wye is for books.

Not so much of a fantasy but more of a bug-bear of mine that is so easily remedied by a few hundred quid. Landlords, have some of you ever considered why the studio flats you put on the rental market remain empty? It’s because there’s nothing more tragic than viewing a room with a sofa and a bed in it (often alongside each other). These rabbit hutches are often on the ground floor and most, if not all, have windows that are separated by a masonry pier. I’m hazily aware of rules when doing this from the first floor up but in my time I’ve a done quite a bit of work for private landlords by put a dividing stud wall creating separate living and sleeping areas making it into a one bedroom flat which makes it a far more attractive consideration for when showing friends and family.

I guess we could also loop back to turning the whole Forest Hill station car park into a piazza, and diverting the South circular though a tunnel to then join and expand the Horniman Gardens into the Triangle.

It’s interesting that as long as I have been on this and other local SE23 sites Waitrose has always been a fantasy request. Does it offer something that other stores do food wise. Or is it just the neat shopping experience?

My gut is telling me that it surreptitiously validates the choices people have made in their living arrangements (not to mention it having a positive effect on surrounding prperty prices). Like it not, but deep down we’re vain creatures and like to think we’re in charge of our own destinies. Kinda like me wanting to introduce my parents and friends to a one bedroom flat over a studio bedsit.

Free coffee?

Though I’d personally prefer a satellite St David coffee shop or van.

Probably more towards dropping hints to friends and family that they had to master another language to identify what’s in their fruit bowl. #FirstWorldStruggles
