David Boston was the Director or the Horniman museum for 28 years before he retired in 1993. The following obituary details some of the ways he helped preserve and improve the museum, having secured funding, found storage and study spaces and even saving the Victorian conservatory.
The article also gives some history of his life, having been born in Salisbury, Wiltshire, schooled in Cape Town during WWII and graduating in history from Selwyn College, Cambridge before starting to work in museums. He was appointed OBE in 1976.
It is undoubtedly due to some of David Boston’s accomplishments that we have the Horniman museum that we know and love today. Thank you David.
