Can anyone tell me what type of reed these are?

As long as it’s not Japanese Knot Reed you’re alright!

If no one here can help, you could try the Picture This app which gives you a few free goes (though does nag a bit).
I tried your picture in the app and it suggested a ‘Giant Reed’ and says it has dried out and needs watering - though it also claims giant reeds are in the top 100 invasive species… it could be wrong though.

Hi. Thanks, yes I love the app “picture this” which is what I usually use to decipher plant species. I’ve managed to avoid paying their sign up costs for a year but now they’ve toughened up and I can’t use it for free … hence my SE23 life reach out! X

Seek is quite a good free app for plant identifying.

At first sight I thought it was a bamboo. Are those long, thin leaves part of the plant? They look bamboo like. Do you have a photo of it in leaf? Knotweed leaves are quite broad and a different shape. But the stems do look knotweed-like.
