The Hill

Anyone else’s patience wearing thin at activities of patrons at the Hill since it recently reopened after lockdown? Noise and commotion at entrance kicking out time and beyond almost nightly. Beer “garden” generating drunken shouting from early afternoon.

Hi I am resident of forest hill for many years. I live behind Dartmouth road. At the moment 20.51 Thursday evening I am sat in the hill having a pint. The pub is quiet nice background music with beer at a very competitive price. The bar staff are friendly and polite. I don’t see a problem

The pub is a great atmosphere and the bar staff are great. After a year of lockdown it’s nice to see people again. A old boy sitting on his own be sure one of the younger generation will make sure they have a pint and someone to talk too… some of the guys have literally not seen and spoken with to anyone in a year …

Yes, sadly, the disturbance has become very depressing

Hi Dan, I live on Dartmouth Road and this had been a persistent problem since before lockdown, and it now seems to be resuming (there are similar threads on this forum). Lots of noise from people hanging out on the street outside, drinking (which is apparently against the pub’s policy) and parking on the pavement opposite are common problems. I have also witnessed drug taking (and the handover of drugs) and urinating on the street. I have reported most of these instances to the police, the pub owners and the the council to no avail, although I will keep pursuing. Please do the same if you can, as more reports could effect change.

I reported it over a year ago to Lewisham’s Licencing department and they were very interested. So I believe that more complaints to them could eventually work.
I wonder if the FHSoc might be able to help with any advice regarding collating and reporting of the nuisance being caused?

This problem has been going on for the last few years. When the pub kicks out the drinkers go to Derby Hill, shout to each other from either side of the street, play music in their cars, and carry on taking drugs and smoking weed. The bottom of Derby Hill is like a market for drug dealers for most evenings, this just exacerbates it. Next time somebody goes in there please have a look and see when the licence is up for renewal, because I will certainly object.

If the landlord is reading this, the please go and stand on Derby Hill an hour after you have kicked people out. I have rung before and you insist you have told people to leave quietly. I don’t doubt that but the couple of dozen of your regulars are a complete nuisance to your neighbours and they could cause you to lose your licence. That would be awful.

The disruptive activity isn’t confined to the front of the premises. Anyone who has the misfortune to be located anywhere near the beer “garden” is now regularly subjected to drunken squaking swearing and shouting from patrons almost daily from afternoon to closing time.

Nobody is complaining about the staff or the atmosphere in the Hill. Just wait until an hour after closing and stand in one of the neighbouring streets and your opinion may change. Fed up of people screeching and shouting and peeing all down the street at 2am. If you had a group of people outside your house shouting and playing music at 1/2am every Friday and Saturday you would not be so defensive. Why the hell are you bringing class into it? You get disrespectful ignorant people in all walks of life.

On a couple of occasions I’ve seen day time drinkers smoking out front and the worse for wear. It’s not always, but sometimes.
