Put it away (sunbathing edition)

So there’s a man sunbathing fully nude in Mayow Park.

He’s right on the edge of the park by the tennis courts, lying on his stomach, so he’s sort of discreet, but also…I did see him stripping off beneath a towel then lying down and “arranging” himself, and his bum is getting full sun.

Is this ok? Am I a prude? I don’t think it’s appropriate?!

It’s called indecent exposure.
At the very least it’s inconsiderate.
Children should not have to try to deal with such a sight in a normal public park.

I thought as much but I don’t know what to do about it — is it a non-emergency police number? I’ve left now because I felt uncomfortable…

According to this BBC article from 2015: “It’s not an offence to be naked in public in England and Wales but it does become an offence if it can be proved the person stripped off with the intention to upset and shock. The complainant has to prove this.”

I’m sure if the PCSOs had a word with him he’d cover up.

(Is anyone else wondering if he’s going to get sunburnt?)

Even more bizarrely, he was lying in the shade when I left. So clearly a bronzed behind is not his intention after all.

Now I think about it, a park might not be a ‘public place’ - it’s owned by the council, they set opening/closing times, restrict which businesses are allowed to operate in it, etc.

If it’s made you feel uncomfortable report it to the non-emergency policy number. There might be a PCSO in the area.

Was it Dom Joly? (One for the oldies)

Seems a bit pathetic to me

There may be mobile park “rangers” employed by Lewisham Council.
They would be worth contacting.

Its a bum. I’ve seen plenty of those on TV on the daytime and in public galleries.

But, and it’s a big BUTT, should children have to fathom how to deal with it in a place where it’s very out of the norm?
Anyway, I can’t get my head around why someone would think it’s okay to just drop their trousers to tan their bits in full view of everyone at the local park.

They probably don’t have a garden

That’s not on at all is it. He sounds like an attention seeker to me. It’s not just right for children NOT to be exposed to, but also women walking through the park.

Hi. I saw a man doing this in Honor Oak Rec recently, half hidden behind the storage container at about 5.30 pm. I called the police. Quite frankly if you are doing this right next to a kids playground you are either dodgy or you want people to think you are. By the time I got through to the police he had noticed me and got dressed and left so they said there was nothing they could do. I appreciate not everyone has a garden but there are lots more subtle places not in the eyeline of kids playgrounds that you could do this if you really feel the need. I didn’t feel comfortable in approaching him myself.

Whether you have a garden or not, I wouldn’t sunbathe naked in my garden, my poor neighbours how embarrassing!
But more to the point it sounds very suspect that he was there by a children’s playground. Just makes my blood boil that yet again poor children are having their what should be a safe place for them to play & have fun spoilt because of some pervert. :rage:

Yeah I called 101. They said they couldn’t do anything as he had got dressed by the time I got through but it was good to report it in case it helped identify a pattern of behaviour - ie if there was a series of people doing the same behaviour, if it escalated into something else etc.
