Gilbert & Sullivan, Zoom meeting Wednesday 21 July 2021 at 2.00 pm

Bernard Lockett, a Trustee of the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival, will give a talk on the historical background of Gilbert & Sullivan and an overview of their works including the social and political satire within the shows.

This sounds interesting. Arthur Sullivan toyed with the affections of two Sydenham ladies. They were sisters, daughters of the engineer John Scott Russell who lived in what was then Sydenham Hill Road (now upper Kirkdale). It sounds particularly cruel, as he started his affair with the second sister while still seeing the first.
