I realise they are not universally popular, but I’m all in favour and think they are a great idea, I hope people get to enjoy them, especially after the last 2 years or so.

Children to reclaim Lewisham’s streets for outdoor play
We’ve relaunched our Play Streets scheme, which sees children reclaim their street for a few hours for some safe and energetic play close to home or school. As well as play streets, residents can also apply for street party events, where residents of all ages can socialise.

Dozens of play streets and community events were run in the borough before the COVID-19 pandemic – including one-off events and regular after-school sessions. These events were put on hold in March 2020, but applications are now open again.

Street events are volunteer-led by local communities and schools. Beside the benefits for children of playing outside games together, these events help to foster a sense of community, bringing residents together.
