Bampton Estate / cat is meowing, maybe needs help

Hello everyone,

Bampton Estate

There is a cat meowing noise coming from either Radcot Point or Standlake Point. I heard it all day yesterday and today morning. It feels that the cat is kept outside on the balcony, in this cold! or on the scaffolding, trapped? If you know the cats location, please let me know, I will knock on the owner’s door or will try to get somebody to take the cat down ftom the scaffold. It is very cold, it will not stay live for long, particularly if it is hungry.

Thank you for your help.

Oh god how awful. Any news ?

Unfortunately no ((.

The meowing was coming out of Radcot Point/ west side. I did entered the communal area and run through all communal balconies trying to call the cat, but no responses from the animal.

But when I tried calling the cat from outside, opposite the west side residential balconies of the block, it was responding intermittently. So it was somewhere either on the balcony or inside an empty room because of the echoing of her sound. I thought to knock on all residents doors of the west side on my return from the shop but the cat was not making any noise any more when I came back. It was not making noise in the evening today either.

I pray that the owner has some consciousness and let the cat in or fed him, or removed him from enclosed room after me making noise in the communal area today morning.

UPD: the cat started meowing again, I went outside to see. It looks like it is inside a room of a flat left/abandoned. I emailed Lewisham Homes ASB team asking if someone can come and check with residents. It is awful what people do with animals, heartbreaking…

Hi Kat, thank you so much for posting this and spending the time trying to find the poor thing. I just hope Lewisham Homes will be able to get to it before it succumbs to thirst or starvation.

Thank you Rob.

Cat was meowing at 1 am last night. So hard to bear it…

I reported to RSPCA, they logged the case but they said that the management company should locate the flat with the cat first. I called LH, they said they ask caretaker to check. I will also check the residents of the flats in Radcot after work today.

Hi Kat,

So sorry to hear about this. I know you’ve spoken with the RSPCA / Lewisham Homes but it may be worth dropping Lewisham Council’s Animal Welfare team an email. While LH isn’t directly run by the council, it is likely that someone from the animal welfare team will have a contact / be able to do something about this (hopefully a bit faster). Their email is animalwelfare@lewisham.gov.uk.

Hope this helps

Thank you Alfie! I will do right now! Anyone who has other ideas, please post it hear, I will try everything.

Anyone who maybe know someone living in Radcot Point who can help to identify the flat the cat is in, please, thier help will be very much appreciated. It could be that people moved and decided to leave the cat behind, it could be an elderly person unconscious or died and no relative to attend as a worst case sinario.Or people need help with looking after the cat. The animal is in distress and I hope to help it (and residents of this flat)

Good grief. Do keep us posted.

What about Celia Hammond? They go out to rescue cats all the time, & if they can co ordinate with the caretaker they could take him/her away,
If it is the case that the poor cat is just left in a room, why are the owners being so cruel.

I guess they have to locate it first of all. Perhaps Kat will have some good news for us soon. Perhaps no news is good news eh Gill ?

Dear all, thank you for your support and kind comments.

I got to the bottom of the cat in distress. Just walked floors from the bottom to the top knocking on residents doors asking if they have a cat. One of the residents on the top floors has one and the cat was in labour, she has just had kittens. She said sometime she was escaping her enclosure. But the cat is fine now. The house is nice, clean and warm, the cat is safe. I left my phone number in case if she needs help.

I very sorry if I caused to worry, but would rather be safe and check out than ignore it and potentially left an animal suffering, or owners needing help.

I will inform LH, Lewisham Council/Animal Welfare and RSPCA tomorrow that the problems has been resolved.

Thank you for your kindness and support.

Kat, very well done. You have no need to apologise, you did just the right thing. If only there were more like you. I hope the kittens will go to a good home and will be neutered !!

I can sleep easy now.

Bless your heart,

Kat, as a cat owner myself (or cat’s servant more like) the thought of a cat howling in distress for hours and days is an upsetting thought so you absolutely have nothing to apologise for. I’m glad there are people out there like you who can show this level of concern for the little furball.

I have seen a similar post about a missing cat in the blocks around your estate. I wasn’t sure if it might have been the one you were hearing, even though you’ve found another cat that was also in distress!

Dear all!

Thank you for the lovely comments :heart::heart::heart:

Rob, just read her post via the link in yours here, I am very sad to hear a kitten got missing :cry::cry:. When I spoke to the lady yesterday, she said her cat and kittens were ok. My only consolation is if a kitten was stolen, it would have a good home. The kitten of its age would probably find hard to jump on the balcony’s rail and then to get to scaffold, so someone must have taken it. Kittens are very expensive now, £600-800, i can see the opportunity for people seen it and taken it. Bad people they are! With that, there are good chances the kitten will be safe, fed and in warm house. The bad person did not want to spend big money to get a cat for his house and took an opportunity. (((

Kat, you are something else!
The time and effort you put into trying to help people, with the Standlake Point planning and property maintenance issues, and this cat is just so admirable.
It’s nothing to do with me, but I just want to say well done and thank you for being such a selfless and caring person.

I just saw that post too and remember this thread! It seems quite a coincidence and maybe a kitten is still lost somewhere.
