What’s happening in Beckenham Place Park is extraordinary.
In case anyone doesn’t know it, it is a very large area of green space in the SE corner of the borough, and in spite of the Beckenham in the name, it’s in Lewisham rather than the immediately adjoining LB Bromley.
A large part is used for a public 18 hole golf course, but this has proved a considerable financial drain for Lewisham Council, and they do not feel the number of golfers justify the cost. So now they are working with Lottery money to develop plans which will encourage greater usage, and be more environmentally friendly. Here are the plans

Inevitably they are objections for local people who like things as they are … and almost equally inevitably, in this year of our Lord 2016, when politics pushes satire beyond previous expectations, we have a far Left group joining the protests, and have now occupied the Grade II* listed manor house which was the clubhouse.
