SE23.life is committed to maintaining its friendly culture.

We recently saw a hostile reply to a new member’s first post. This is unacceptable and has been hidden. New members who engage positively should always see a friendly welcome here, regardless of their beliefs.

From our community guidelines:

Nothing sabotages a healthy conversation like rudeness

• Be civil. Don’t post anything that a reasonable person would consider offensive, abusive, or hate speech.
• Keep it clean. Don’t post anything obscene or sexually explicit.
• Respect each other. Don’t harass or grief anyone, impersonate people, or expose their private information.
• Respect our forum. Don’t post spam or otherwise vandalise the forum.
• Don’t “bump” your own topics unless you are adding information or reducing the price of a wanted/offered item.

You can help us preserve our friendly culture:

As moderators, we intervene as little as possible, and we encourage members to avoid responding to hostile posts.

Instead, use our software to take action: flag posts that break the guidelines. @moderators will be alerted, and if you have sufficient trust level, and other members agree, your flags immediately hide posts, and cause repeat offenders to lose their trust-level. If a new member is flagged by multiple trusted members, they will be automatically blocked from the forum.

To flag an inappropriate post:

1. Click the “…” icon below it:
   

2. Click the flag:
   

3. Select “It’s Inappropriate” and click “Flag Post”

We’re lucky to enjoy civilised conversation here on the whole, and only the occasional comment that breaks guidelines.

A reminder not to respond to members that break our community guidelines, but instead to use the flagging features of our forum software.

Flags help by:

• adjusting the trust level of members who break our community guidelines
• hiding posts that break the guidelines
• alerting moderators
• recording patterns of disruption so moderators can take action against repeat offenders

In the run-up to the General Election, we’re likely to see partisan political posts appearing in the main forum. @moderators will occasionally steer party-political debate into our opt-in Politicos groups where it belongs. We prefer to nudge rather than steer.

Where warnings have been given to an individual and repeatedly ignored, you can help by using the “inappropriate” flag (see above) on their posts.

As mods, we want the community to be involved in any action taken - especially when dealing with partisan issues.

If your post has been flagged and hidden, this is because multiple members felt it was inappropriate. Please respect the wishes of our community and bear in mind that moderators will step in if flags have been used inappropriately. Please PM @moderators if you have any concerns.
