Hi all,
Thought this might be of interest (esp as food waste bins are on their way…)
If you (businesses and individuals) hate to throw good food out you can down download an app called Olio that alerts people in the area – and they can pick it up on a first come first served basis. Not much on it round here at the moment, but hopefully as it gets more popular there will be more activity.
For local restaurants, there’s another app called Too Good To Go where you can post the portions at the end of the day that you’d otherwise have to bin and sell them for about a third of the price at close of the day (average is about £2). Lots of activity in central London but not much in the SE yet…
FYI, neither of these initiatives are aimed at tackling food poverty – they are about food waste. If you want to help people experiencing food poverty I’d suggest volunteering at or donating to FH food bank or helping out at FareShare in Deptford.
