Disposal of Kitchen Knives?

HI all. We have some kitchen knives to dispose of. Is there a recommended/safe way to do this in Lewisham? I haven’t been able to finc anything on Lewisham’s website. I did see the below article which suggests that these can be disposed of in the wheelie bin but would like other user’s thoughts on that, as it seems a little bit too easy.

Save them up and make a chair.

I wrap them up well and bury them in the depths of the bin, assuming they’ll get into the crusher before anyone comes to any harm. I’d be surprised if someone went rummaging through a bin to look for knives when they can so easily steal them from shops - I recently saw rows of ripped and empty knife packs in Sainsburys at Sydenham.

Hi Bolgerp,
Wouldn’t you be able to take them to Kewisham Police Station? Don’t they have a knife armistice? Save them getting into the wrong hands!

Q644: I want to dispose of some kitchen knives can you tell me how to do this safely?

You can put the knives in your bin. It is advisable to ensure that they are packaged securely so as not to cause injury to any persons.
With the introduction of wheelie bins everything is done by machine so that likelihood of injury has been vastly reduced. However it is still advisable to package the knives securely just in case.
All metal knives can be taken to your local waste disposal site where there will be a skip for scrap metal.
