Just had someone knocking on the door with a large plastic crate of items, claiming to be collecting on behalf of the homeless. Are these people genuine? Fake ID is so easy these days. I always say, I have a policy of never giving on the door-step.
You can add ‘would you like to join our church’ to this too. I usually have to interrupt the flow to say ‘No thank you, I’m an atheist’ at which point they look at me like I’m Satan and make a speedy exit.
Some of these hawkers have been called the Nottingham knockers. I am told that they watch where you get your money from and about two weeks later you get burgled. The burglars know where to look for your cash.
Obviously, some traders may be genuine.
