How do you Magnify the script on this Forum?

My iPad won’t allow me to magnify the script on this forum’ so what can I do?
I know this can also be a problem if you download certain apps.
Anyone else have this problem or know how to remedy it?

Hi @Poppet21 - I’m investigating this and will let you know what I find.

I can see that the iPad’s “Magnifier” accessibility isn’t working on SE23.life and there may be something I can do to rectify this.

I’m looking for a more elegant solution but in the meantime found that I can nearly double the forum text size by rotating my iPad to landscape and pinching to zoom.

Hi Chris,

Firstly I am new to the forum so  and secondly I imagine the issue here is to do with the <meta name="viewport"> tag. This tag can be used to disable pinch zoom and magnifying even though it causes the accessibility issues we are experiencing here.

I can see that on this forum this tag is set to <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, minimum-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0, user-scalable=yes">

If you have access to this all you need to do is change this to be <meta name="viewport" initial-scale=1.0"> and this should allow people to zoom as much or little as they want.

Hi @GlynnPhillips, welcome to the forum and thanks for your post.

I want to make sure I understand your advice - I find that I’m currently able to pinch to zoom on iPad and iPhone. With the meta tag altered, how would the experience differ?

Sorry @anon5422159 I am not an everyday iOS user so I missed an update about this. Turns out with iOS 10 the most recent update they have started to ignore the maximum-scale=1.0 part so pinch zoom on up to date iOS devices will still be able to pinch zoom. However this change would still be good as not all devices have made this change, for example Android devices.

Also apologise I misunderstood the issue, out of interest which “magnifier” accessibility feature are you turning on? As there are several in the settings around magnifying/zooming/text enlarging.

I was looking into Settings > General > Accessibility > Larger Text, which changes font sizes in some apps, but not others (and not websites like this forum)

@Poppet21, was this the setting that you tried on your iPad?

I have enquired with the developers of our forum software about possible support for Apple’s “Larger Text” feature.

Yes, Chris, this was the setting that I used.

Thanks @Poppet21. The developers are working on a “themes” feature that may well help you. I’ll let you know when this is ready.

Hi @Poppet21

The feature I mentioned is now ready.

To enlarge text on SE23.life:

  1. Click your profile photo (for you it’s a green “P”) in the top right corner.
  2. Click the little cog button
  3. Click the drop-down that says “Account” and choose “Interface”
  4. In the “Theme” box at the bottom of the screen, select “Larger Text”
  5. Click “Save Changes”

Thanks Chris, this has helped tremendously. But can you magnify any of the photos on the forum, ‘The photos of Forest Hill’ thread for example? I’m not able to do that.

Hi @Poppet21, if you tap the photos you should be able to pinch to zoom on iPad.

Also they should enlarge to some extent if you hold the iPad on its side.
