Let’s get a Bikehanger for Kilmorie Road, Forest Hill.

Hello Everyone,

Who cycles to work? And who would like to have secure storage for their bikes? Finally get that bike out of your way at home. I’m looking for people to join and support a request to Lewisham Council for Kilmorie Road to get its own Bikehanger.

What do you think? They install them in January and September, so let’s send them as many request as we can here: Bikehangar hire: application form

Otherwise, I would be up for funding it ourselves if people are keen.

Thank you very much! I’m looking forward to hear your thoughts.
Stephan

There was previous discussion on this here which you might also find useful to look at.

Thanks so much for posting this; I’ve just moved to Stanstead Road, around the corner from Kilmorie Road, and have registered interest in a space. Hope they can install a hangar this year!

So how does this work and what do they look like? Sorry but a lot of the links on earlier discussions don’t work. Do they go on the pavement or (hopefully!) the road? And do you pay rent for a designated space, like if you were lucky enough to get a council garage, or is it free but first come first served and open to anyone, like a bike stand or kerbside car/motorcycle parking?

Hi, these type of bikehnagers are installed on the road, it takes up half a standard car parking space:

Here you can find where the existing ones are located for renting:

They cost £60 per year and one can secure 6 bikes (6 residents).

The more people request them, the higher the chance we will get more in our area.

Thank you!

Which end of Kilmorie are you thinking, as it’s a long old road?

I’m thinking somewhere in the middle of Stanstead Road and Vancouver Road:

this is how they look like btw

Cool. Thanks for clarifying :slightly_smiling_face:

Parking is quite difficult on this road due to all the driveways, so the issue might be finding a free space on the road.
Do the residents of the houses have to agree?
I would think further down nearer to Vancouver might be better as there are two long sections not in front of anyone’s houses.

I’m a big supporter of cycling but I don’t think it makes much sense since all the houses there have front gardens where bikes can be put ?

Agree that there isn’t enough parking space due to driveways and that people could store them in their front garden / back garden. Possibly as suggested, better by Vancouver road or perhaps by the school where they ban parking in the first instance

I’ve added my name to this too. Recently moved to Elsinore Road. I live in a flat so storage for a bike is tricky, this would be ideal

It’s mainly for those living in flats, who don’t have front or back storage space.

Great, thank you! Let’s hope we get one or two in the area.

Does anyone know what the cost of self-funding would be?

Looks like it’s happening at the corner of Vancouver and Kilmorie!
Hope it benefits cyclists without adding to the traffic chaos at that corner at school drop off / pick up which has become worse since Kilmorie became a school street.
If placed close enough to the corner it may actually make it safer.

Finally it arrived! Thank you Lewisham! Some people are never happy…

Who’s not happy then?

It looks quite near the corner. Presumably accessed from the pavement side? I don’t know how those shelters work.

If you parked a car there it would take up even more space, I’m sure it’s not a problem

That’s not what I meant. I was asking how was it accessed when parking and removing bicycles. If from the road it could be dangerous. So I presume it opens on the pavement side, not onto tge Road. Nothing to do with the space the hanger occupies.

I’m pretty sure it opens on the pavement side - these things have a lock and there’s nothing visible in the photo.
