Newt SOS!

So yesterday Kallik the newest dog discovered the old pond, and attacked it with vigor. Unfortunately it has been a home to a dozen or so newts for a while now, but there are no longer safe in there. He can’t practically be kept away from it.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions as to where a dozen smooth newts can be relocated. I know it’s not really the done thing, but they won’t stand a chance here.

I think you can move them as long as they are not one of the protected species. Maybe someone else with a pond will volunteer to take them. Maybe Dacres Woods or the Devonshire Road Nature Reserve? @TimLund might know.

They are just common newts but want to be kind about their relocation.
Keston springs to mind, the lower pond.
Have sent @TimLund a message too. But want to get them in a new home today.

We were in Sydenham Community Garden this week… So lovely and they had lots of newts swimming around. Could be worth a try?

Yup, nominative determinism strikes, but I think he’s heard it enough times
