Acclaimed East Dulwich pub The Palmerston will close after 15 years in south London on 3 June this year.

A statement posted to Instagram confirmed the closure after the operators were not offered a new lease on the property.

The statement added: “It is with a heavy heart to all our customers, friends and supporters over the last 15yrs that June 3rd will be our last day of The Palmerston as we know it.

“We have reached the end of our lease and unfortunately we are not being offered a new one. Please come say hi before we go”

The site was widely acclaimed, and featured in both Zagat and the Michelin Guide where it holds a Michelin plate and was described as “a brightly run Victorian pub that has a comfortable, lived-in feel and lies at the heart of the local community”.

The guide added: “The cooking has a satisfying, gutsy edge with meat dishes, especially game, being the highlight.”

Very sad to hear this news - Ria and her husband built this up to be an outstanding pub/dining rooms. Spent many a weekend entertaining friends there.

Damn. Why should such a great business be forced to close? We love the Palmerston.
