Part-time Home Furnishing Tutor

What we’re looking for
Adult Learning Lewisham requires an experienced Home/Soft Furnishing tutor to join the existing Textiles team, initially to deliver short 3-6 week classes at both the Brockley Rise and Granville Park Centre The planned class sessions run on Monday & Wednesday evenings, and Tuesday mornings- but there could potentially be some flexibility on the delivery day. There may also be the potential to develop additional classes at alternative times and centres depending on learner feedback and demand.

We are looking for a reliable conscientious and dedicated tutor who preferably has experience of working in an adult environment and has qualification to at least level 4 as well as having or be willing to work towards achieving a recognised teaching qualification (e.g.Cert Ed/PGCE). They would preferably have either professional industry experience, or be self-employed in the field. The successful candidate will also need to carry out all administrative tasks associated with the post including attendance at tutor meetings and CPD.

Salary details
£28.88 - £30.26 per hour

The post requires the tutor to:
• Deliver all aspects of practical home furnishing to classes of up to 11 adult learners of varying ages, backgrounds and abilities (from complete beginners, through to those with more experience). Learners’ personal project work is most likely to include making cushions, blinds, lined & unlined curtains - but applicants should also have the ability to teach the construction of loose furniture covers and box cushions that will be of interest to our Upholsterers.

• Produce and complete course documentation to support teaching and learning – for example; scheme of work, lesson plan, electronic registers, and developing IT based resources for the course virtual learning environment.

• Support the learners to achieve the set course and individual learning goals and complete the relevant Individual Learning Plan documentation for this.
