Which pubs are re-opening in Forest Hill?

Do we have any confirmed (or unconfirmed) reports of pubs re-opening in Forest Hill? I’m guessing 4th July will be a big step forward, although I’ve been cycling round town and have seen a few serving outdoor beers with people standing in streets drinking. That looked quite fun, at least while the sun is shining.

In any case I think we could all use a beer.

On a stroll earlier, I saw the Hill on Dartmouth Rd were up to something.

Sadly I doubt we’ll be allowed to stand around on Dartmouth Road with pint glasses. And their garden is tiny too - maybe just gearing up to open in a couple of weeks?

Ah. I was thinking the 4th not right now.

Frankly, I wouldn’t trust myself to keep 1m+ from others after a couple of pints, so unless it’s a big beer garden with loads of extra toilets I may keep my patronage to my local, the Starman and Moose.

The sylvan post could be a good socially distanced boozer if they could spread out a bit outside, hope they open soon. Same for the Herne and Watson’s general telegraph just over the hill from HOP, could be great outdoor pubs.

The booths and vaults at the Sylvan could be really good for social distancing.

I do wonder if this new era could see us in a more continental model of table service rather than queuing a few deep at the bar.

They had an app to order beers showcased on BBC Breakfast today. Long overdue. I hate queuing for beer at the bar. But then I’m German so maybe I have an excuse to be grumpy about inefficiency

I like the continental style of table service but I do get annoyed when I want to leave but have to wait to pay, I think I prefer bar service overall for that reason. Wetherspoons have a decent app though which has worked well most times I’ve used it and takes payment online so maybe more of that to come.

Yes a great hybrid of both worlds. Order online and pay. Get beer delivered to the table and leave when you want without needing a bill. Win win!

I can do that now without going to the pub.

Ha don’t be so antisocial :slightly_smiling_face:

I’d quite like to keep the local pubs open.

I get better BBQ at home. But yes. I miss my visits to the pubs locally. But I’m also as wary of the actions of others as I am of my own (after a couple of drinks). I’m guessing those with sizable beer gardens will fair better than others. But I also have to wonder how the toilets will work. I had to queue long times for the loo in my club days. I’m too old for that shit now.

The Dulwich Beer Dispensary (which has done a bit of a hokey cokey in terms of opening/closing/opening/closing) is open for takeaways at the moment. They’ve never yet been open at the right time of year to use their outside space - and, as they’ve kept all the restaurant tables, can probably distance reasonably easily.

Not of any immediate help, but …

The old Windmill would have been perfect as an indoor social distancing place.

But even the new Windmill (if the developer ever stops playing silly games) could work well. There’s no outside area - not even a smoking zone - but because he’s departed from the approved design with the apparent aim of turning it into two small shops or flats, he can have very separate in and out doors and an easily divisible space where we could have booths. Long term I know, but could be ready before the winter drives everyone in from beer gardens.

We’d have to find a publican first. Anyone know anyone who might be interested?

To clarify: it’s the entire ground floor of the building in this rather wonky photo. Looks like two shops, but it isn’t. The unfinished looking bit in the middle is the entrance to the flats.

The shenanigans with the developer at the Windmill - that’s exactly why we fought to protect the All Inn One from a similar redevelopment scheme.

All Inn One has a huge garden, perfect for safe socialising - more so than any other pub in Forest Hill.

The Honor Oak had a member of staff in there yesterday when I walked past. As it has large gardens front and rear it should be a good candidate to be able re-open safely! (As safely as is possible anyway)

EXCELLENT! That’s fab.

Probably a good move to re-open on a quieter Monday, and once the hordes of people dying for a pub experience have had their fill on the Saturday.

The Signal.
