Why can’t brand new users send private messages?

Continuing the discussion from Calling all Greeks of SE23:

Specifically, this is how you get to trust level 2 (after which you can send PMs):

  • visiting at least 15 days, not sequentially
  • casting at least 5 likes
  • receiving at least 5 likes
  • replying to at least 3 different topics
  • entering at least 20 topics
  • reading at least 100 posts
  • spend a total of 60 minutes reading posts

Or you can get verfied, which boosts you instantly to trust level 3.

I believe you can receive PMs (and reply) at any trust level.

We unfortunately have to take precautions. Other local SE23 forums were sabotaged by someone that PMed porn to all members. We experienced multiple sabotage attempts on this forum itself since we started in May.

Spending 60mins reading posts? What if somebody is a fast reader?

I assume you don’t need to meet all these criteria, only one of them (otherwise the 15 day rule would seem a little harsh).

So after 60 minutes fast reading you would hope a new user would find something to ‘like’ during that time, or had managed to read 100 posts.

That makes more sense - it does sound like you need to meet all of them from the original post though

Or you can pop into Sugar Mountain and meet Pauline or if you are desperate you can PM me and I can meet you in FH to verify you are a real person. I work from home so happy to oblige. :grinning:

Reading that makes it sound a bit creepy :fearful:

You need to pop on your Mod Coat of Yellow before offering to meet members to ‘verify’ them.

Is that advice offered as a forum user or fellow mod, RD?

Just teasing.

Even worst :grinning:

Correct,

Mods do occasionally fast-track members to trust level 2 manually if they’ve been active and positive on the forum.
