Hi sergeant Biddle
thank you for your updates. Can you let us know who deals with the rest of Forest Hill apart from Perry Vale as we would love updates for the rest of the area if possible.
Thank you and keep up the good work especially in this cold weather.

At 6am this morning we responded to local residents concerns about drug dealing and ASB by executing a drugs warrant in Stanstead Rd.

Seven people were arrested and are currently at Lewisham Police Station being interviewed.

Believed heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis were recovered - as well as a large quantity of cash and a stolen motor scooter.

Enquiries continue…

As a resident of Stanstead Rd wanted to say thanks to the Police who carried out this work yesterday. I’m afraid for a long time the car park area behind the council flats on the west side of the road (shown in image below) seems to be a congregating area for a range of activities at least some of which I suspect involve illegality. If the local community team could include that area in their regular patrols I think it would certainly provide reassurance to local residents.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Well done for making our streets safer. I also passed three police officers patrolling Dartmouth Road this evening which is also welcome.

kat.standlake.point
15 Dec '17

May i also join to ask if possible

Our Windrush lane SE23-2XB is a dead end road with quite remote patch between the car park opposite the block and the houses on the other side of the ball court:

is very quiet place, hardly anyone walks through there, we had drug activity there in the past, cars coming night time, park in the remote corners, 2-3 people inside seating, somebody comes and joints them, then gets out of the car, car drives off. Residents asked for more lights and cameras, but cameras are expensive but they did improve lighting though.

I understand that there are limited resources but if a police car on patrol passes Perry Vale, can they just come to Windrush lane, make a circle and drive off. That way bad people will see that the police is on the watch out and wont come near the place.

And thank you very much to all police people for your hard work. It is really really appreciated :bouquet:

This week my team has: conducted visible patrols on the 3 wards, executed a drugs warrant leading to 7 arrests for Class A&B drugs supply & money laundering, recovered a stolen motorbike, visited local youth groups & churches, continued to investigate a number of local crimes, conducted arrest enquiries for suspects for the crimes and for others wanted on warrant, liaised with @LewishamCouncil and housing providers about ASB issues, completed urgent case papers for trials, sent drugs to the lab, arranged phone downloads, met with @elliereeves and ‘walked the Met’, ditto with @MartinHewittMPS , assisted @MPSSpecials officers with an arrest… oh and been out on patrol on the 3 wards (did I mention that?)
Thanks to them from me AND thanks for the community support we know we have! #SgtBiddle

SgtBiddle

19 Dec '17

So a busy day yesterday: 2 x people charged with possession of drugs following our warrant in Manor Mount on the 24th November. Both to court on the 2nd Jan 18.

Lots of foot patrol in both Forest Hill & Perry Vale.

One arrest (by me) of a beggar in London Road. The chap has previously been issued with a Community Protection Notice banning him from begging in Perry Vale. Obviously he thought he could move to Forest Hill…

He’s also been warned not to beg on numerous occasions. He is also NOT homeless and has access to free food.

I was approached by a few concerned citizens asking why I’d arrested a beggar. I told them that it’s a Perry Vale Ward priority and did point out that the chap had actually been warned on numerous occasions to stop.

I know it’s not the biggest crime in the world but there does come a time for enforcement.

Dear Se23.life

I’ve been out today with PCSOAndrea in Forest Hill and Perry Vale speaking to two residents of the Cannonby Road area who have been unfortunate victims of burglary over the past few days.
Entry to both premises was via a rear door or window.
In one case tools from a shed were used to smash the patio door glass.

I would ask that you check your gardens security and think about outside lighting etc.

I also visited the Church Vale flats where we’ve had complaints of drug taking and general ASB by youths in the stairwell. I’ve tasked my team to visit the block as often as possible when on duty as this behaviour is really impacting on local residents there.

Back tomorrow for more!

#SgtBiddle

SgtBiddle

We were out earlier patrolling the flats in Church Rise looking for any evidence of ASB including street drinking and drug taking - as promised to residents.

Some old reefer butts but nothing recent. Please let me know if you witness any as I’m aware of the impact on local residents.

Dear all,

Sorry for not posting for a few days. I’ve been away on a Public Order course (lots of bricks and petrol bombs - so nothing like SE23 thank goodness!!).

A brief update. From the team today. PC Mick and others attended an address earlier and arrested a suspect for a shoplifting offence from a shop in Forest Hill. The suspect has been interviewed and enqs continue.

Patrols have taken place across the wards… we have suffered from a number of burglaries in the past weeks in perry Vale where entry has been gained via a rear window. Please take time this weekend to check your homes security!

My team and I will continue to work as hard as we can to keep the wards of Forest Hill, Perry Vale and Crofton Park as safe as possible!

Best wishes,

SgtBiddle

18 Jan '18

We executed a dangerous dogs act warrant yesterday.

Two dogs seized so enqs can continue.
And we also managed to arrest a man who’s been wanted for theft for some time at the same address!
A second chap jumped over the back garden wall when we knocked (we were round the back too!) for absolutely no reason other than he always does that when police knock! :joy:
He was met by two of my officers and a large hairy police dog! :dog2:

I’m intrigued who are on these ward panels and how they are selected? Is it a panel of elected local councillors meeting with the local police team or are there members of the public on the panel? Is the meeting where these priorities set publicised, who can attend and how are these decisions made.

SgtBiddle
19 Jan '18

Hi,

Anyone can be on the Ward Panel - as long as they live or work on the ward and are able to represent the views of a group of residents or traders etc… (eg we have Neighbourhood Watch reps, Shop Keepers, Residents Association reps, and are always open to local young people joining).

If you would like to join please let us know via email. John.biddle@met.pnn.police.uk

Another busy day for the team. Lots happening. Again a few burglaries in SE23. We are redoubling our efforts to prevent them and catch the culprits.

Be vigilant SE23!!

SgtBiddle

SgtBiddle
24 Jan '18

Yesterday in SE23 we conducted a number of arrest enquiries for wanted offenders.

We then responded to a call from care home staff to a resident armed with a knife having a Mental Health Crisis.
The patient was disarmed and has been safely taken by us to a Place of Safety for treatment under the Mental Health Act.
MH crisis isn’t something that we normally deal with as SNT Officers - although we do have good links with our care homes throughout the 3 SE23 wards as Response Team usually deal but I give this as an example of some of th variety of incidents my team come across.

On our way back we found one of our beggars outside the Co Op in Waldram Park. He’s been issued with a Community Protection Notice in the past and as he was in breach of it he was told he would be prosecuted by PCRichard. FYI the beggar is NOT homeless has been offered help and has access to free food etc.

24 Jan '18

What does ‘an attempt’ mean? Did someone catch them out. How did they gain entry to the back of the houses? What’s being done to try and prevent this spate? We were burgled in the summer and it’s horrid. I hate the fact it continues.

SgtBiddle
24 Jan '18

Hi. An attempted burglary is exactly that.
The suspect was disturbed before they could gain access.
As said entry or attempted entry seems to be favourite through rear windows.

Lewisham units are aware and are continuing patrols in the area. We need everyone to be vigilant.

24 Jan '18

Thank you, I live in this area so good to know you are patrolling.
On a side note, there were ADT security people door-knocking my road this week. I had a man wanting to do ‘a security analysis of my house to qualify for some free security equipment’ and he was asking if I had a burglar alarm etc. Well he seemed a nice guy and may be genuine, but I said no thanks because I don’t intend to discuss my house security with a strange person without knowing if they are who they say they are.
I am sure we’ve discussed this company before on this forum but wanted to mention it again as it’s happened recently.

Alisa
24 Jan '18

We had the same tonight. The questions we had were about our property and car. My husband has PM’ed ADT to ask whether this is their sales technique or whether he should inform the police.

saretap
25 Jan '18

@SgtBiddle @Daffodil we had the same yesterday afternoon on Elsinore Road. He didn’t say he was ADT but mentioned them. It was very clever but I clocked it immediately and said I wasn’t interested.

MackemJo
25 Jan '18

@saretap they were also on Elsinore on Tuesday evening so visit the same street more than once it seems…it makes me very uncomfortable.

RachaelDunlop
25 Jan '18

ADT do have ‘direct sales’ teams that go door-to-door. I think it’s bizarre for a company that wants people to be vigilant about their security! They say their reps wear hi-viz vests and have ADT ID cards.

SgtBiddle
25 Jan '18

My advice? If you are unsure NEVER let reps in. Always ask to call their office first to confirm. If they are genuine they will be happy to wait.

If they aren’t - please report it to us via 999/101.

I’m not sure I should love this topic (great community engagement) or loathe it (too many crime reports). But I’m sure it brings great comfort to many forum members.

One thought though as it marches past 80 responses. Would it be helpful to create a monthly or quarterly version? This topic was only started in December and already has a read time of 8 minutes. Noting a 2017 start date, and the long length might new visitors be less inclined to read through this one?

Of course such an idea would need @SgtBiddle’s support as it would be he who might have to respond to multiple topics. But as I noted. Just a thought.

I understand the logic of the majority of the tips against burglary. However, I’m not quite sure I’m interpreting the bins one.

In many parts of the borough, the only place to put bins is at the front of the house which presumably makes them accessible but is unavoidable.

Or is it simply not leaving them on the pavement after the round suggesting you’re away from home?

10 Feb '18

I always assumed it was because they can make a handy & portable platform for vaulting over high fences or rear garden gates - more of a concern for houses with a side return as it can grant easy access to a secluded area where a prospective burglar can take their time breaking in - a lesson I learnt to my detriment several years ago :frowning:

However she continually breached her community protection notice (CPN).

It’s was a busy day yesterday… It started with PC Kate and me having a chat about her 6 month probationary review - all good so far!

PC Richard and PC Gillian were in early to visit a victim of harassment in Perry Vale. They were able to take a statement and view footage. The suspect was issued with a First Instance Harassment Warning. They will be keeping an eye on this.
PCSO Andrea was out and about in Perry Vale too - visiting community groups etc. PC Richard has started the process of obtaining a Criminal Behaviour Order against one of our local people of concern.

PC Mick and PC Sam were on patrol in Forest Hill town centre. PC Mick had some good news. The beggar he arrested for breach of her Community Protection Notice last week pleaded guilty and received a £180 fine.
PCSO Amie was away Emergency Life Support training yesterday so was the only one not about.

PCs Kate and Rob were out and about in Crofton Park. PC Kate held a Contact Point meeting. PCSO Aaron joined her.

I assisted PC Gillian and PC Richard with an arrest enquiry. No luck this time… then we managed to sneak a quick coffee at the lovely Brown and Green cafe in Mayow Park where we kicked a few footballs about with the kids!
It’s all about the community!

After that I met up with PCSO Andrea in Perry Vale and we patrolled Dartmouth Road - popping into Sugar Mountain to chat with Pauline about the forthcoming Street event that we hope to support with horses and a crime prevention stall.
Then back through Perry Vale. Always great to get out on foot.

The day ended with PC Kate receiving a number of short notice and lengthy actions from the CPS for a harassment case she dealt with and which is going to court next week (!). All had to be completed ASAP so PC Sam and I stayed late with her to get them sorted. Why do memos always come on a Friday evening when you want to get away???

I even found time to pop into see JK Banquets about a parking issue…

A busy day!

Spoke today with one of the residents, he uses a small shed in our block on the ground floor. Last week smbd broke into his shed and stole his tools, broke the wall from inside and accessed the neighbouring shed. Also 2-3 weeks ago, one of our residents car was broken into. It’s going to turn very cold over the next week & snow :snowflake:️ is expected - so spend some time checking on your elderly/infirm neighbours welfare.

And take care on icy roads! :blue_car: :snowflake:

If you mean the Shipman Road/Sunderland Road alley then a report was sent to Lewisham Council by PC Gillian after I visited with council officers a while back.
We were told that they would only be able to put up a temporary camera. I will ask PC Gillian to chase this up.
However we haven’t had any reports of incidents there for some time.

I have complained to the council on several occasions about residents from a nearby house (local authority) who BLAST music from the property and their cars for hours on end. It mostly happens in the summer when their windows and my windows are open and unfortunately I can’t close my windows due to the heat so have to suffer with the noise all day.

It’s not at particularly unsociable hours but the bass and the noise is so loud it’s intolerable and the vibrations can be felt in my flat which is on the opposite side of the street 3 floors up. On top of this their “mates” will come round and loiter outside the house in their cars again usually accompanied by the music. I have never heard back from the council and it occurs every year. Do you respond to anti social behaviour such as loud music sgt Biddle or have any suggestions as I’m at my wits end.

Hi,
Noise issues are dealt with by the local authority. Police have no powers to deal unfortunately. Please email me with details and I’ll pass it on.

Kids on mopeds - this weekend we had a couple of kids on a moped drive right up in to the private grounds of our block of flats, throw a bottle at the window of a ground floor flat and shout abuse and make rude gestures to a resident. They were wearing helmets and appeared to have covered up the license plate of the bike.

We reported it to the 101 emergency number.

Aren’t we meant to start a new topic for spring now that March is here (even if spring is some way away)?

We held off on account of the inevitable sarcastic comments…

I am certain you meant hysterically funny and poignant commentary.

Ok ok - I can’t keep my face straight.
